At this stage both men (Steve Iredale, the chain saw carver and  Chris Wadsworth) realised that they were unable to physically lift the trunk into the prepared hole

An attempt was made to use the horse and try to tip the trunk into its prepared hole. It was not a success!

The horse then pulled the trunk to the prepared site for the seat

Middlesbrough Borough Council Countryside Action Team and the Friends of Fairy Dell joined in, but still it failed

Three chainsaw seat sculptures have been created using the wood from a previously fallen oak tree in Fairy Dell.  These seats are a similar design to those already in Fairy Dell to give consistency.

The prepared sections of the fallen oak tree were hauled from Fairy Dell up a steep wooded slope into Fairy Dell Park using a local forester (Chris Wadsworth) and his shire horse

(although it is actually a French breed – a ‘Percheron’).

Steve set up a winch to try and lift one end of the trunk

Still NO Success

The trunk slid into place after an extra channel was cut out of the ground

The trunk is manoeuvred into position

Success at last
